The Japan Association of New Economy (JANE. Location: Minato-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director: Mickey Mikitani) issues the following statement from its representative director regarding the bill to establish a legal framework for ride-sharing services, submitted today to the National Diet by the Japan Innovation Party.

1. Since 2015, JANE has repeatedly highlighted the transportation shortage caused by labor shortages and inbound tourism demand. In 2018, we presented a detailed proposal for a solution to this urgent challenge.
2. Today, the Japan Innovation Party submitted the Bill for the Establishment of a Legal Framework for Ride-Sharing Services.”
3. We recognize that the bill reflects the following points JANE has consistently advocated:
· Ensuring new market entry for non-taxi operators
· Allowing drivers to work under outsourcing contracts
· Introducing digital-era operational management
· Advancing the development of a business environment including bold introduction of new dynamic pricing models.
4. We strongly hope that this bill will trigger vigorous bipartisan debate and lead to the earliest possible full legalization of ride-sharing.
