Comment regarding the declaration of a state of emergency

JANE fully supports the declaration of a state of emergency as an essential measure, as JANE set out in calls for the declaration on February 24, April 2 and 4.

To address this unprecedented crisis, JANE and our members are fully committed to supporting the communities in which we operate and bringing to bear our unique strengths in digital innovation and entrepreneurship. Each of our members will contribute through their own resources and by promoting understanding and implementation of social distancing and other measures to tackle the spread of the virus.

It is vital that we not only address the current spread of the virus but that we also implement sufficient economic measures to address its impact, as well as take steps to prevent crises like this in the future. Through crises like this, we must recognize the importance of fundamental change to manage the accelerating shift of society to the online world.
This is also the subject of JANE’s submission to the government on April 5 aimed at encouraging further consideration.
